On Saturday, October 29th, the boys junior B soccer team traveled to Andover for a 2 pm match. Deerfield beat Andover 1-0 last year on a late penalty kick, so no doubt the hosts had revenge on their minds on their parent’s weekend. It was a cold New England day, with period rain showers soaking the uneven, patchy field. The first 20 minutes were back and forth, with neither team gaining much of an advantage, until Andover broke through in the 20th minute for a 1-0 lead. Despite several Deerfield chances and shots, the hosts doubled their lead in the 25th minute to lead 2-0 at the half. Play continued in much the same fashion for the next 20 minutes – fairly even, but with Deerfield having more shots. Andover scored again in the 44th minute on a controversial breakaway to lead 3-0. Deerfield would threaten numerous times in the last 25 minutes of the match, but could only manage a John Chung ’20 goal in the 61st minute to avoid a shutout. The junior B team returns to action on November 2nd with a rematch at home against the Bement School varsity team.
