On Saturday, October 1st, the boys Junior B soccer team hosted Suffield Academy on the lower fields. The day was cool and cloudy, but there was no rain and the field conditions were dry. The team was looking forward to the game, as Suffield was the only squad to defeat them last season, taking a 3-2 decision at Deerfield. Starting keeper Alexander Leong ’19 was injured during warm-ups and was taken to the health center with a dislocated finger. While this might have been seen as a bad omen, Deerfield started quickly, with Noah Jung ’19 finding the back of the next just a few minutes into the contest. Unlike the previous game against Eaglebrook, goals came fast and furious for Deerfield this time and the boys were leading 3-0 at half-time. By the end of the game, Deerfield had scored six more times for the final margin of 9-0. Jung had 4 goals and other scorers were John Chung ’20, Will Song ’20, Henry Renelus ’20, Jared Faux ’20, and David Chen ’20. Deerfield controlled the play throughout the game, aided by fine defensive efforts by Jonathan Glinton ’19 and Topjor Tsultrim ’18. The Junior B team returns to action on October 8th with a match against Westminster at home at 3 pm.
