On Saturday, October 22nd, the boys junior B soccer team hosted the JV2 team from the Eaglebrook School for the third of three matches against various EBS teams this season. With a record of 1-1 going in, the squad was eager for a win to capture the season series against the neighboring school. It was a cold, windy day with a wet field and more rain a constant threat. Despite the weather, the fan and student turnout was high and much appreciated by the team. Deerfield had a great chance early, with Josh Fang ’19 just curling a shot outside of the frame in the 2nd minute. It wasn’t long before Deerfield was able to take advantage of pressure on the EBS goal, with Justin Lui scoring in the 9th minute for a 1-0 lead. In the 17th minute, a scramble in front of the Deerfield goal nearly resulted in EBS tying the score, but keeper Ethan Chen ’20 was able to keep the ball out of the net and eventually clear it. Jack Lund ’19 scored his first goal of the year, poking home a cross in the 26th minute to increase Deerfield’s lead to 2-0 at the half. EBS had a great chance to cut the lead in half in the 51st minute, but clanged a penalty kick off the crossbar. After some back and forth action, with EBS looking to cut into the lead, Jack Lund ’19 scored his second goal in the 61st minute to seal Deerfield’s 3-0 win. Peter Marchese ’20 took over keeper duties in the second half and was able to preserve the squad’s 4th clean sheet of the season. The junior B team returns to action on October 26th with a 3:30 match at home against Belmont Hill.
