On Wednesday, October 12th, the boys junior B soccer team traveled to the neighboring Bement School to take on their varsity squad and earned a hard-fought 2-1 win, after trailing 1-0 at the half. Although it was an away game, the squad was able to walk to the field on a beautiful New England fall afternoon. Unlike previous games, where Deerfield was able to score early and take command of the game, the visiting team was held scoreless during a half for the first time this year. Bement scored in the 24th minute to take a 1-0 lead, although Henry Renelus ’20 just barely missed slotting home a Topjor Tsultrim ’18 cross just before the half. After Bement hit the post early in the 2nd half, Deerfield was able to control play for much of the rest of the game, aided by a stiff breeze and the sun facing the Bement keeper. Deerfield finally tied the game in the 45th minute on a goal by Jared Faux ’20 and took the lead for good on a goal in the 55th minute by Noah Jung ’19. Jung nearly doubled the lead a few minutes later, but the Bement keeper made a great save on a direct free kick. The junior B team returns to action on October 15th with a match on the road against the Eaglebrook School.
