It was a tough weekend for the Deerfield Varsity Football team. The team traveled to Andover for a game with a winless, but hungry Phillips team. Deerfield went into the game riding a strong performance at Phillips Exeter, but could not get off the bus and get it done at PA. Deerfield was a bit banged up with injuries, but there were many younger guys that stepped up in their place and played tough all game long. Andover took the opening kickoff to the end zone for a quick score. This took the wind right out of Deerfield’s sails. Deerfield moved the ball down field on a number of drives, but they were unable to cash in. Andover put the pressure on with a strong run game and went up big. Deerfield clawed its way back in the second half with a strong effort across the board, but ultimately fell to Andover 44-22. Deerfield was led by Ian Crosby ’17 at quarterback and John Esposito ’17 at wide receiver and defensive back. Deerfield’s offensive line played a strong game in the trenches and battled all day long. It is back to work this week preparing for Deerfield’s last home game of the season against Cheshire Academy.
