The Big Green varsity football team, led by captains Tommy Hale ’17 and Brandon Scott ’17, and new head coach Brian Barbato got their first win of the 2016 season.
Quarterback Sharif Legree ’17 threw for two touchdowns and Bubba Fairman ’17 returned the 2nd half opening kick-off 90 yards for Deerfield’s three scores. DE/TE Dallas Hobbs ‘17 was named the game MVP; Hobbs scored a touchdown, had several tackles for loss leading a stingy Big Green defense. Hunter Long ’17 had a sack on defense, and pulled in his first touchdown of the year after Legree alluded tacklers and found him in the back of the end-zone.
Defensively Deerfield showed marked improvement holding the Bearcats to a scoreless first half and under 250 yards of total offense for the day. Matt Donovan ‘17, Zykeem Sims ‘17, Justin Masella ‘17 and Jackson Caputo ’17 anchored the front vs. a tough Hotchkiss running attack, while the secondary, led by Fairman ’17 and corners Ian Crosby ’17 and Teddy Sullivan ‘17, kept the Bearcats under 150 yards passing.
Deerfield plays home next weekend, Saturday, October 8 vs. Worcester Academy at 3pm. If you can’t make it to campus next weekend, tune in to watch the LIVE stream.
