The Deerfield Varsity Football Team beat Phillips Exeter Academy 41-13 on a rainy evening in Exeter NH.
A delayed start did not sway the Big Green’s offense who came out firing on all cylinders. Quarterback Sharif Legree ’17 ran for a touchdown and threw for another to mark a solid day for the PG stand-out.
PG running back Jake Gallehdari ‘17 ran for 2 touchdowns and collected the only passing score of the day from Legree.
Senior running back Harry Gahagan ’17 also scored 2 touchdowns on the day and had the longest run from scrimmage with a 72 yard scamper late in the 3rd quarter.
Senior running back Justin Rivers ’17 carried the heavy load of the running game for the day and was the Big Green’s player of the day for his efforts in moving the chains and picking up crucial first downs.
PG safety Bubba Fairman ’17 came up big for Deerfield in the 3rd quarter by stripping the Phillips Exeter QB of the ball on his way in for a score, and then recovered and returned the ball 20 yards to end a big drive by Phillips Exeter.
Senior defensive tackle’s Brandon Scott ‘17, Justin Masella ‘17, Matt Donovan ‘17 and Tommy Hale ’17 made crucial plays down the stretch to keep the Exeter offense stalling all night.
Defensive ends Hunter Long ‘17, Dallas Hobbs ‘17, and linebackers, Zykeem Sims ’17 and Jackson Caputo ’17 anchored the front versus a tough Phillips Exeter running attack. While the secondary, led by Fairman and corners Ian Crosby ’17 and Teddy Sullivan ’17 held down the Big Green secondary.
Deerfield plays away next weekend, Saturday, October 29 vs. Andover Academy at 3pm.
