Deerfield showed some great heart today in a hard-fought battle against a strong Taft team. Although it was pretty cold and the wind was blowing, Deerfield managed to score a goal 17 seconds into the game with some beautiful passing up the right and a hard shot from Anya Shevzov-Zebrun ’17 once she hit the circle. For a good portion of the first half, Deerfield kept the pressure on a very talented Taft defense, but was unable to capitalize. A few minutes following our first goal, Taft was able to run the ball down the field and score off of a scramble in front of the net to tie the game at 1-1. The girls came out strong in the second half, and were making some good connections up the field. Meredith Heaney ’18 was doing a great job going to ball and putting pressure on players in the midfield. With 4 minutes remaining in the game, Taft called a time out to slow our momentum. After the whistle, the girls put a lot of pressure on and Maggie Roche ’18 scored a beautiful goal with some great stick work. For the remainder of the game, Deerfield played with a lot of heart to keep the score at 2-1 and leave Taft with a win. The girls look forward to our game against Worcester Academy on our turf this Wednesday, October 26th.
