Deerfield took on rival Choate at home on Wednesday afternoon, and ended up falling 3-2 in an evenly matched game. The Big Green took advantage of an early power play opportunity, moving the puck well until Deirdre Mullowney ’19 fired a laser top corner from the point. Meghan Halloran’17 earned the assist on the play, but good work by Taylor Morash ’16 at the hashboards and by Ali Dougal ’18 and Jenna Greenbaum ’17 in front also contributed to the goal. Choate was able to tie the score a few minutes later, however, and so the two teams went into the locker room tied at 1. Though Deerfield had the possession advantage in the second frame, Choate took the lead off of a hard shot through a screen. They extended their lead off of a similar play in the third period, but the Big Green pulled within one with just under two minutes to go. Excellent work by Isabel Perry ’16 and Elliot Gilbert ’16 (who returned from an injury to play her first game in 6 weeks) down low got the puck to Morash in front of the net, who flipped a backhand by the Choate goalie. We were unable to find the tying goal, however, and so came away with a disappointing 3-2 loss. Emily Yue ’16 made 22 saves in goal, while Deerfield put 28 shots on the Choate net. Erin DeMarco ’19, Meaghan O’Brien ’18, and Katherine Goguen ’16 all had very good games on defense. Next up is a home game against New Hampton on Friday night. Many thanks to the Goguens for the wraps and pizza after the game, and to Mrs. Emerson for facilitating the food delivery!
