Soccer, Boys: Varsity loses to Suffield

Event Details

This Tuesday, September 23, the Deerfield lower fields were looking as beautiful as ever on the early fall day, when the Boys Varsity Soccer had their first official home game. Every season comes with wins and losses, starting with our big win last Saturday and our first loss on Tuesday. The boys played hard against Suffield Academy, with a 4-0 Loss. The starting players were George Fair, Brendan O’Connell, Felicius Bucyukundi, Nick Ferrari, Camden Kelleher, Oliver Fair, Brian Davis, Jackson Pitcher, David Michaud, Mark DesLauriers, and Goalie, Tim Gerber.

In the first half, Suffield #11 Inigo Ugarte got the first goal after the ball was served into the penalty area. The second goal was shot by #21 Cole Rogglin on a breakaway after a long pass upfield. Some major defensive standouts were by Brian Davis at center defense and Brendan O’Connell with great defending as a striker. Deerfield had some great shots in the first half but was unable to convert them; Suffield converted on its scoring opportunities at a high rate. Suffield had a total of 7 shots and Deerfield a total of 9 by the end of the game.

In the second half, the boys played hard all the way through. Suffield’s #9 Uyikwam Asante scored on a breakaway in the 48th minute, and #21 Cole Roggalin also scored with an unassisted shot in the 77th minute. At the end of the game, Deerfield and Suffield both were 1-1 for corner kicks, and Deerfield’s goalie, Tim Gerber, made 5 total saves. Deerfield was only given 9 fouls, while Suffield was fouled 16 times. And with the no cards issued, the game ended with a 4-0 win for Suffield. A big crowd gathered around the boys’ field from the first minute of the game. The rowdy fans of Deerfield rallied with the team for all 90 minutes of playing time, showing the tremendous support the Deerfield community has for each other.

Deerfield will play Brunswick at home this Saturday afternoon, September 26th, at 3:30!
