Deerfield traveled to K-O this afternoon, and while we returned with a few bumps and bruises (one from the warm-up and two from checks from behind during the game), the Big Green skated away with a 9-1 win. We did not play at our typical pace in the first period, but Brenna Hoar ’18 (assist to Erin DeMarco ’19), Meghan Halloran ’17 (on a breakaway thanks to a beautiful pass from Jenna Greenbaum ’17; DeMarco had the second assist), and Greenbaum (assists to Halloran and Taylor Morash ’16) all scored to put the visitors up 3-0 after the first fifteen minutes. K-O got a goal back early on in the second, but Ali Dougal ’18 responded quickly with a power play goal (assists to Deirdre Mullowney ’19 and Halloran), and then Halloran went end-to-end to score her second goal of the day. The third period was our best of the afternoon, as Mae Emerson ’19 (assist to Hoar) and Margaret Williams ’19 (assists to Ali Fujiyoshi ’19 and Mullowney) both scored the first goals of their Deerfield careers. Dougal also converted on another power play (assist to Morash), and Halloran earned the hat trick on yet another breakaway (assist to Mary Edmonds ’19). Jordan Manning ’19 got the win in goal with 11 saves, while Deerfield put 35 shots on the K-O net. Though it wasn’t our best effort, the girls found a way to get the job done and were able to maintain their composure despite some challenging circumstances. Next up is a long trip to St. Paul’s on Wednesday. Many thanks to the O’Brien family for the drinks, pizza, and cupcakes after the game!
