The Big Green took on a strong Nobles team tonight at home, and we knew that we would have our hands full. Nevertheless, we resolved to play a smart, tough, and simple game, and in general this was a competitive contest from start to finish. The pace of the game was fast, but our three lines and defensemen were up to the challenge, as we applied good pressure in the Nobles zone all night long. Nobles led 1-0 after the first period on a beautiful top corner shot, and then they extended their lead on the first shift of the second frame on a shot from a strange angle. A defensive breakdown had us down 3-0 heading into the final fifteen minutes, but the girls rallied and played their best period of the game by far. We had ten shots this period, with the line of Meghan Halloran ’17, Jenna Greenbaum ’17 and Taylor Morash ’16 coming close on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, Nobles was able to sneak a long shot by Jordan Manning ’19 (36 saves), who had an otherwise very solid outing, and the game ended 4-0 in favor of the visitors. Ali Fujiyoshi ’19 was a standout on defense tonight, and Erin DeMarco ’19 also played her best game in a Deerfield uniform. The heart and effort displayed by this group tonight was outstanding, and we will look for our hard work to finally pay off when we travel to K-O tomorrow for an afternoon contest. Many thanks to the Yue family for the drinks, fruit, and sushi after the game!
