The Big Green hit the road this afternoon to take on a quick and talented team from Loomis. Though the home team dominated possession in the first period, sound defensive zone coverage kept most of the action to the outside, and our defense did a nice job of picking up sticks in front of the net. The first frame ended with the score knotted 0-0, but Loomis capitalized on an early power play to start the second period when one of their forwards banged home a rebound from in tight. Our girls responded well, as Meghan Halloran ’17, Mae Emerson ’19, and Jenna Greenbaum ’17 all had decent scoring chances before the period came to an end. Unfortunately, Loomis scored the only goal of the third period on a defensive lapse, and we were unable to generate enough offensive momentum to get on the scoreboard. Jordan Manning ’19, forced to play despite a limiting injury, stepped up big time in goal with 32 saves, and Mary Edmonds ’19 was a standout today in all three zones with her hustle and anticipation. This was a much better team effort than Saturday’s contest, but there is much work to be done to bring this young team together. Next up is Nobles at home on Friday evening. Thank you to the Dougals for the cookies after the game!
