On October 14th, Deerfield boy’s varsity soccer geared up and headed down to the lower fields to play Westminster. Deerfield played hard and brought home a 2-0 victory.
Deerfield scored their first goal in the 41st minute of the game. Oliver Fair (#11) hit some fantastic restarts; every ball had the potential to be scored. But at 41 minutes, George Fair (#7) headed the ball off of a corner kick from Oliver Fair, and into the goal to the right of Westminster’s goalkeeper. By the end of the half, Deerfield had the advantage with a 1-0 lead and 45 minutes left in the game.
In the second half, Deerfield was ready to score once again, in the 65th minute; Nigel Andrews (#18) received the ball from Oliver Fair, and shot and scored at the 6 yard line, off of a rebound from a corner kick. Deerfield continued to play hard for the rest of the game, and ended up with a final score of 2-0. Jackson Pitcher (#17) had a superb game as center back and dominated in the air. Brendan O’Connell (#2) played well between the penalty area, covering a huge part of the field on offense and defense Deerfield was issued two yellow cards, one going to Nigel Andrews and the other to Uno Wait, and Westminster’s Declan Horrigan also received a yellow card of his own. Deerfield had a total of 8 shots, 4 saves, 6 corner kicks, and 12 fouls. Westminster had 4 shots, 6 saves, and 8 fouls.
Deerfield had a short scrimmage against Mahar High School on Thursday, October 15th.
Deerfield travels to Hotchkiss School on Saturday, October 15th for a match at 2:30.
