Buildings and Technology Endowment Funds

DAVID S. BROWN ’69 ARBOR FUND

Established in 2000 with a bequest from David ’69 with additional memorial gifts from family and friends, the fund honors his vision for stewardship of the trees of Deerfield, which for hundreds of years have made Deerfield such a special place.

RICHARD G. CARROTT ’43 FUND

Established in 1990 by Richard G. Carrott ’43 for the maintenance of Deerfield Academy buildings constructed before 1943.

CLASS OF 2004 FUND

Established by parents and friends of the Class of 2004, the fund supports the advancement of and the potential for technology within the curriculum of the Koch Center.

GENERAL ENDOWMENT FOR SCIENCE CENTER

Established to receive general gifts specifically intended for the science center.

GENERAL ENDOWMENT FUND FOR TECHNOLOGY

Established in 1998 with gifts directed in support of technology at Deerfield.

HESS FOUNDATION FUND

Established in 2003 by John and Susan Hess, parents of Michael B. ’05, David J. ’07, and William ’12.

LENNON TECHNOLOGY FUND

Established in 1999 by Robert W. Lennon ’59, the fund provides equal access for all students to the tools of technology.

OLD MAIN STREET PRESERVATION FUND

This endowed fund, established in 2014 by Douglas W. Squires ’69 and his wife Maggie, parents of Nicholas W. Squires ’09 Provides funding to preserve and maintain as a legacy for future generations the unique streetscape and architectural heritage of the property owned by Deerfield Academy within the boundaries of the National Historic Landmark designation for Deerfield Village.

PARKER FAMILY TECHNOLOGY FUND

Established in 2000 with gifts from Mrs. Susan Parker and her children, Angus Parker and Julia Parker, in memory of George M. Parker Jr. ’54, husband, father and Deerfield trustee 1994-1997, the fund supports the information technology programs at Deerfield, with preference given to the purchase of computers for faculty and staff and hardware for academic and administrative use.

W. REED SIMMONS ’63 FUND

Established in 1998 by Reed Simmons ’63 for unrestricted support of the Academy, preference may be given for needs in the area of technology.

WIDMER LEGACY REFURBISHMENT FUND

Established in 2005 with gifts in honor of Meera Viswanathan and Eric Widmer ’57, the fund supports restructuring, refurbishment, and upgrades of buildings.

Upon graduating from Deerfield, alumni enter a diverse network of former Deerfield students. Deerfield alumni have ventured into almost every area of employment, and many are at the top of their respective fields. The advantages of this vast network are numerous and significant, as every member of the Deerfield family receives the following:

Alumni are also eligible for alumni awards, such as the Ashley Award, Heritage Award, and the Mimi Morsman Award.

There are no membership fees or dues for members of the Deerfield family, but Deerfield does ask for assistance in a few areas. First of all, in order for Deerfield to have the most up-to-date records possible, we encourage members to keep us apprised of their current contact info. Alumni are also urged to direct all concerns and suggestions regarding Deerfield’s operations through the Executive Committee, the governing body of the Alumni Association. The committee acts as the voice of the alumni body, and works closely with the school administration. In order to keep tuition affordable and the quality of a Deerfield education at its highest, the Academy depends upon the continuing support of alumni and their families. This support can take the form of annual or capital gifts, or time spent volunteering on behalf of Deerfield.
