Floyd Ronad ‘Buz’ Dimond, Obituary

Floyd Ronald “Buz” Dimond of Vero Beach, FL, and Wilson, WY, died on February 12, 2019, at the age of 82.

Buz was born on February 23, 1936, in New York, NY, the son of Renwick and Lucy Dimond. He graduated from Deerfield Academy and Yale University, class of 1958, and obtained his MBA from Columbia University in 1962. He worked for many years as an advertising executive in Manhattan, at First National City Bank and later at Marine Midland Bank.

Buz spent his early years in New York City and Boston, on a farm in Flemington, NJ, and in North Hero, VT. In 1970, he was married to Allison Brewster White of New York and West Falmouth, MA. The couple and their two children lived in New York, Long Island, and Vermont. Following their divorce, Buz renewed an old friendship with Charlotte O’Neil Oliver, who became his longtime partner.

A skilled athlete, Buz played ice hockey, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, and football during his school and college years. He was a confident and strong golfer and skier well into his last year of life. With his partner, Charlotte, he spent much of the past three decades in Jackson Hole, WY, skiing, playing golf, and enjoying the natural beauty of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Buz also loved spending time on his boat, cruising the waters from Maine to Florida.

Buz will be remembered for his intellect and wit. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and entertained a multitude of friends with his seemingly endless repertoire of jokes. He leaves his daughter, Allison Brewster Dimond, and her husband Christian Bundy, of Asheville, NC; and his son, James Longfellow Dimond, and his wife Julie Barber, of Anacortes, WA. In addition to his partner of 30 years, Charlotte Oliver, he leaves his brother, Renwick Dimond, of Palm Beach, FL, and his grandson, Luke Alexander Bundy, of Asheville, NC. He is survived as well by a niece, a nephew, three great nephews and two great nieces.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jackson Hole Land Trust.

There are no membership fees or dues for members of the Deerfield family, but Deerfield does ask for assistance in a few areas. First of all, in order for Deerfield to have the most up-to-date records possible, we encourage members to keep us apprised of their current contact info. Alumni are also urged to direct all concerns and suggestions regarding Deerfield’s operations through the Executive Committee, the governing body of the Alumni Association. The committee acts as the voice of the alumni body, and works closely with the school administration. In order to keep tuition affordable and the quality of a Deerfield education at its highest, the Academy depends upon the continuing support of alumni and their families. This support can take the form of annual or capital gifts, or time spent volunteering on behalf of Deerfield.

There are Deerfield Clubs in many major American cities. Please visit here for more information on specific clubs and their sponsored events.
