I am working for the Red Sox this summer and I was scheduled to meet Rob Wood and Jeff Wood along with additional family members in order to show them around Fenway Park. Both Rob and Jeff are grandsons of Red Sox Legend “Smoky” Joe Wood. As we began to converse about who we are and where we are all from we come to find a lot of connections. The Wood family has Deerfield roots and are proud alumni of Deerfield Academy. Brothers Rob and Jeff, their father Bob, and their two uncles, Joe Jr. and Steve Wood were all members of the Deerfield Classes of 37, 38, 39, 63, and 66. Of course, it was Smoky Joe who made all this happen by originally supporting his three sons at Deerfield. This is a picture of the three of us, Me ’10, Rob ’63, and Jeff ’66 gathered around a replica of the 1912 World Series Championship Trophy. Smoky Joe Wood was a member of that 1912 championship team 100 years ago.
