Back to Africa

I am leaving for another round of AIDS prevention walks in October, this time in some of Africa’s more violence prone countries: Libya, Central African Republic, Algeria and Niger. What I have discovered is that teens are more at risk for HIV transmission in areas of civil strife where schools no longer are operating and the rape of young females is a daily occurence. Here in the U.S., my non-profit TeenAIDS is conducting the first “live” testing of older youths (17 and up) in public venues (using oral swabs) because the vast majority of them choose not to know their status and avoid traditional testing sites. I am presenting this research at international conferences and hope to be at our 50th reunion in 2016.
