Reid Thompson

Rob McDowell reports of classmate “Reid Thompson, class of 1981, just wrapped up two weeks in Africa performing brain surgery on needy locals. As you know, Reid is a world-renowned neurosurgeon, chairman of neurosurgery and an endowed professor at Vanderbilt.”

Reid in his own words: This was a trip through Vanderbilt neurosurgery. We are establishing international outreach as part of our department mission. And have focused (in Africa) on Tanzania. There are over 50 mission people there and only about 5 neurosurgeons.
There is tremendous need for education in neurosurgery in Africa.
