The Innovation Lab is a place for art and design, engineering, fabrication, and education. It transforms the individual workshop into a communal space that encourages the sharing of ideas, information, and skills. It houses a wide range of tools, equipment, and materials, for both independent and collaborative projects.
The Innovation Lab fosters learning through experimentation. It creates a space for students to make mistakes and learn from them. It’s an environment for building and testing solutions, and then rebuilding. It’s a workshop designed to facilitate and make visible the problem solving process.
At the same time, it also encourages learning through instruction. Students have the opportunity to learn skills from faculty and other students.
The Innovation Lab aims to broaden student experience. The Lab provides an environment for hands-on work. It offers resources for teachers to explore new pedagogical approaches and an environment for students to explore interests and new ideas.
The Innovation Lab is open to the entire Deerfield Academy community. We encourage anyone interested in seeing the lab or building a project to come by!
The Innovation Lab is located on the ground floor of the library.
We have a variety of digital fabrication tools, including a poster printer, vinyl cutter, laser cutter, and 3D printer. Please refer to the iLab’s tech resources pages for details. Training classes are listed on the calendar.
Contact Megan Hayes-Golding, the Innovation Lab Coordinator. She’d love to hear from you!
Whether you have a fully fleshed out plan or are looking to brainstorm ideas and collaborate, contact Emily Richardson! We love to have classes come and use the space.
