Maya C. Delaney ’13 and Dana N. ‘Denley’ Delaney ’13 Receive Ashley Award

At School Meeting on April 5, Maya C. Delaney ’13 and Dana N. ‘Denley’ Delaney ’13 were presented with the Ashley Award for their work in ocean research and conservation. Named in honor of Tom Ashley, Class of 1911, the Ashley Award was created by the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association to recognize young Deerfield alumni/ae who demonstrate exemplary character and extraordinary devotion to a people, cause, or place. It honors those who can serve as an example for current students and their fellow alumni.

Deerfield Walks in Support of the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts

The Deerfield Academy community took to the track on Thursday for the Miles for Meals event, organized by Deerfield’s Center for Service and Global Citizenship in partnership with The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. Food Bank Director Andrew Moorehouse and student organizers led the DA community around the track to help raise funds to feed families in need. Each lap walked by participants was tallied and will support the work of the Food Bank.

Captain Milton ‘Jamie’ Sands ’88 Receives 2018 Heritage Award at School Meeting

Captain Jamie Sands ’88 visited Deerfield this week to accept the 2018 Heritage Award. Jamie has had a distinguished career in the Navy, where he has led SEAL teams in special operations around the world. The Heritage Award is presented annually to a Deerfield alumnus or alumna whose professional and personal achievements represent a special contribution to the betterment of society.

Miles for Meals

The Deerfield Academy community took to the track today for the Miles for Meals event, organized by Deerfield’s Center for Service and Global Citizenship in partnership with the The Food Bank of Western MA. Kiana Rawji ’18 Interviews 2017 Heritage Award Recipient Alan Hassenfeld ’66

Business leader and philanthropist Alan Hassenfeld ’66 was awarded Deerfield’s Heritage Award on Wednesday, November 29 at School Meeting.

Hassenfeld served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of his family’s multi-billion-dollar toy company Hasbro, Inc. He established the Hassenfeld Family Innovation Center at Brandeis University, and served on the Dean’s Council of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and the Board of Directors of the Brown University medical school. He is a Director of the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island, and a former Chairman of the Right Now! Coalition. Hassenfeld is active in supporting, and raising awareness about, many causes, including children’s safety issues, the empowerment of women in developing countries, education, gun control, workers’ rights, and political reform in the United States and abroad.

The Heritage Award is presented annually to a Deerfield alumnus or alumna whose professional and personal achievements represent a special contribution to the betterment of society. Past recipients include: John Ashbery ’45, Frederick Barton ’67, Kerry Emanuel ’73, Caldwell Esselstyn Jr. ’52, Hugh Hardy ’50, and Budd Schulberg ’32.

Topping off the Athletics Complex

The final beams of Deerfield’s new Athletics Complex were placed today! Construction manager Skanska USA and architect Sasaki Associates celebrated by placing a tree on top of the building in a traditional Scandinavian “topping off” ceremony.

Choate Day 2017

The 95th Choate Day was hosted at Deerfield Academy on November 11, 2017. Deerfield outscored Choate with six wins, three losses, and three ties recorded!
