Johan ’27 and the group sat down with Adam Rothman, Professor in the History Department and Director of Georgetown’s Center for the Study of Slavery and Its Legacies.
On Friday morning, our group had the opportunity to meet with Georgetown Professor of History Adam Rothman to learn more on how the university is approaching its teaching about and reconciliation efforts related to its dark past with slavery. Throughout the conversation, we were encouraged to ask challenging questions about the links between Georgetown’s past and modern-day events, as well as why it is paramount for such heavy stories to be echoed as we are approaching the nation’s semiquincentennial (250th) birthday. This was an incredible way for our group to start our trip, as it sparked many questions for us to ask ourselves as we move through the remainder of the trip.
