Picture this: a group of 11 Deerfield students and 2 trip leaders brimming with excitement for an upcoming trip, more imminent than we felt we were ready for (or maybe just me). After we loaded our luggage in the Green Machine, we took a group photo, and we were on the road.
Unfortunately, I cannot speak for everyone when I say I found a way to pass the time, by playing a few games with a few members of the group I was blessed to have, where many laughs were shared.
Two hours later we arrived at the Hilton. We were given some time to get situated in the room , until we went to dinner. After the meal we headed back to the hotel where the trip leaders emphasized we sleep early so we can get enough rest for the early flight the next morning.
Waking up at 3:45 isn’t the easiest thing, especially when that day was daylight savings meaning the entire group lost a whole hour of sleep, but either way we persevered and boarded a bus that headed for the Boston Logan Airport.
When we landed in Eleuthera our spirits (and the temperature) were up. We waited a bit, received our luggage and got in a van making its way for The Island School.
As a group, we arrived at the Deep Creek which is the community surrounding the island school where we will be doing most of the work.
I think I can speak for the entire group when I say I’m excited to see where this trip will take us and what we can learn from this gracious opportunity.
