Gillian ’27 and Abi ’27 describe their weekend in Málaga, where they explored art museums, visited the historic cathedral, and bonded over local tapas.
Today we started by taking a three hour drive to Málaga, where we would be spending the entirety of the weekend. On the bus ride we saw some beautiful scenery, caught a glimpse of Gibraltar, and experienced a Spanish truck stop where we had some fun meriendas.
Once in Málaga, we made a quick stop at the hotel to drop off our things before exploring the city. Our first stop was el Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga. With three floors, this museum was full of contemporary and modern art. Before continuing to our next museum—Centre Pompidou—we took a snack break at an heladería. At our next location, designated by a large, but see-through cube, we strolled through countless pieces of modern art.
Outside of Centre Pompidou there was a shopping market that ran the length of Muelle Uno in the Puerto de Málaga. We spent about an hour exploring the local market and surrounding areas before returning to the hotel. We were free to have dinner on our own tonight, but the group decided to eat together at Udon Larios for dinner, which is where we would wrap up the night. Málaga is cool! It will be a fun weekend!

Today, I woke up at 9am. Fiona, Maia, and I headed down to the Hotel Casual del Mar breakfast buffet where there were many options to choose from! I finally decided to eat tostadas, huevos, yogur, y chocolate caliente! We headed back upstairs to get ready for the day. First, we headed to Santa Iglesia Catedral Basílica de la Encarnación de Málaga. It was so beautiful and massive. I was able to take many photos and admire all the monuments. After, we headed to get an açaí bowl! But before, Profe and I spotted a genie, who I was terrified of. Profe helped me get a photo with him. Although I was very scared, I did it and he gave me a cool crystal! Now at the açaí place, I got a bowl that contained fresas, arándanos, chocolate, manteca de cacahuete, plátano, y coco. ¡Qué rico!
We ate our snack and headed to El Museo de Picasso. As soon as we walked in, we saw a huge high-heel shoe made of metal which I thought was very cool. There were many abstract paintings that I thought were interesting to look at. For lunch, we headed to Cambara. While we waited, we played the game of imposter which was very fun. The meal at Cambara consisted of tapas and my main meal of salmon! My favorite tapa was the gambas, claro que si!
We then had free time; Fiona, Maia, and I shopped around. We then headed back to the hotel to rest before dinner. At 8 o’clock, we headed to the restaurant. I ordered chicken tenders but ended up eating chicken wings and drinking Fanta de Naranja. There were many laughs shared at the table and photos being taken. After this long but fun day, we headed back to the hotel to rest up for the next day!
