Katherine ’28 enjoys practicing her Spanish in class, at the market and in conversations with seniors in Cadiz.
Today we met at the school at 10 am for another day of fun classes. During class today, we learned lots of new things about the history of Cadiz, foods of Cádiz, and we played a fun heads-up game. We usually get a break when we get to go to the patio (playground) and hang out with the little Spanish kids that attend school there, but today we went to a fun food market in the historic center of Cádiz. There, we did an activity with our instructors and got to see many fruit and fish shops. We talked to many locals and learned a lot about the fish they have at their stands.
After the market we returned to our houses and had a lunch made by our homestay moms. Then we had some free time! I chose to spend my free time at the beach and checking out some shops. After that, we met back at the bus stop to return to the historic center of Cádiz, where we got to volunteer at a home for the elderly of Cádiz. This was such a fulfilling and amazing experience. They were so happy to see us, and we got to listen to some music and play some games with them. I learned a lot about what Cádiz was like when they were growing up, and I got to see how happy we made them which was so cool! After this, we returned to our houses where we had great dinners prepared by our homestay moms, and got to keep practicing and improving our Spanish! Overall, I am having such a fun time and Spain is awesome!
