We woke up today at 4:30 AM to get ready to depart from Deerfield. Even at the crack of dawn, the energy was already set. We sat in the airport with our bags packed and our spirits ready to fly. When we finally touched down in Puerto Rico, our Envoys tour guides set Vivian and me up to lead this fantastic group. Have you ever danced in the middle of a circle full of vibrant colors, with the beats of drums so loud that even the birds start dancing? Well, that was me as I finished my dance in front of the crowd and my peers. The amount of love I received was endless. Yet, the journey was not over. I ended the day enjoying some amazing fish and great conversation with my peers.
Saying goodbye to Deerfield was easy because I was half asleep! We left before the sun rose and arrived in Puerto Rico around mid-afternoon. As we drove from the San Juan airport to our hotel, we were exposed to beautiful plant life, a crashing ocean, and a gradually growing city surrounding the historic San Juan. Our Envoys trip leaders, Juliana and Yadi, brought us to Viejo San Juan (Old San Juan) for dinner. We ate incredible food and watched Tyler dance alongside a full band of Bomba musicians. He truly blended in with the professional dancers. He matched their rhythm and was very confident! I am very excited to see what else Puerto Rico has in store for us. We’ll see tomorrow!
