Hola desde PR!
Today we travelled back to San Juan and went to the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico.
I woke up early in Ponce, getting ready to go back to San Juan. Although I really enjoyed being in Ponce, I found San Juan to be even more exciting since there was so much to do. On the bus ride back I listened to music and I tried – and failed – to take a nap before starting the day.
Knowing that this was our last day exploring Puerto Rico, I wanted to make the most out of the day. When we arrived back in San Juan, we were given partners and tasked to do another scavenger hunt. My partners were Vivian and Vic’Kaysha, and we were all very excited to see more of San Juan together. We were able to find even more souvenirs and we were able to figure out more sayings and popular dishes on the island.
After the scavenger hunt, we traveled to a museum. Although I really wanted to take pictures, the trip leaders encouraged us to be in the moment and take mental pictures of the place. I found this to be insightful. The person giving us the tour of the museum talked about historical Puerto Rican artists and the importance of syncretism. At the end of the tour, there was a beautiful garden in which my peers and I were given time to reflect on the trip and things we saw in the museum. I loved having this quiet moment to just think to myself about everything I had experienced on the trip.
After the museum, we were given free time to explore a certain part of San Juan. Since our exploration of the city was limited, I found this time to be very enjoyable and I got to spend my money on souvenirs for my family and friends. My small group talked and we spent quality time together just reflecting on the trip. The last thing we did that day was go to this nice restaurant near the hotel. I usually loved when we ate meals together because the discussions we had would give me insight into how the other people on the trip, usually they were pretty funny too.
When I got back to the hotel and met up with my former roommate Jessica, we put our bags back in our room and got ready for the final discussion with our trip leaders. Hearing everyone’s stories and memories of the trip made me feel great, and I was so grateful to have been given the opportunity to spend time with these amazing people.
