Germany, Czech Republic, Poland 2026: #4 The Nuremberg Trials

Today was a very eventful day as we spent our last day in Nuremberg. The city of Nuremberg is so calm yet full of so vibrant color and architecture. Highlights from today were visiting the Nazi Party Rally grounds and being able to stand in the same space where hundreds of thousands of people would gather to hear Hitler spew hateful propaganda for hours in an attempt to influence people to blame minority groups for Germany’s problems. It was also interesting to be in the Nuremberg Trials Museum where we saw multiple informative exhibits, especially the Courtroom 600 exhibit where we got to see and receive a visual and audio experience of what the trials were like. Being in that space really makes you think about how the Holocaust is way more of a contemporary issue than many people think. In one of the exhibits, they showed clips from the Nazi Concentration Camp movie where you can see how malnourished the laborers were and the terrible conditions they had to endure. This experience showed how truly horrific the WW2 war crimes were and was also very eye-opening with regard to how we interpret justice today. Additionally, we had a seminar in which we discussed the concept of social justice, and how society chooses to respect, follow, and obey social constructs. Thinking of today’s world, we often observe parallels between tactics and prejudice seen in Nazi Germany, especially with the museum exhibition and the seminar that was provided. Finally, we had a dinner of beef noodle soup, beef with horseradish and potatoes, as well as ice cream to round out our day.
