Join Us for a Free Trip to the Metropolitan Opera to See Lincoln in the Bardo on October 24

Every year, Deerfield Academy offers our students a chance to take a very special trip to New York City to see a show. This year, on Saturday, October 24, we’ll be going to the Metropolitan Opera to see a new production called LINCOLN IN THE BARDO.

Written by three-time GRAMMY-nominated composer Missy Mazzoli, LINCOLN IN THE BARDO is a supernatural story that takes place in the “bardo,” a transitional plane between the end of this life and the beginning of the next, populated by those who resist all the powers of light and darkness and refuse to accept their fates. The action revolves around 11-year-old Willie, recently deceased son of Abraham Lincoln, whose grief-stricken visits to Willie’s tomb prevent his son’s spirit from moving on.

The trip, which is completely free for all students, will bring you from Deerfield in the morning, down to New York, and back late in the evening. We’ll have one meal on the bus, and one meal at a restaurant in New York. This is an all-day trip, and all students who participate need to be certain they do not have a cocurricular conflict that day. If you’d like to go on the trip, but have a game or practice scheduled, you need to speak with your cocurricular leaders before signing up.

Sign up for the trip here starting at 10:05 am today. The form will remain open until our trip roster and our wait list are full.
