This summer, 10 Students and two faculty members are traveling to Italy to examine the Etruscan, Greek, Roman, medieval, renaissance and modern footprints on the Italian peninsula and in Sicily. Please enjoy this blog post below from Charlie ’26 as she shares about a peaceful travel day in poetic form, highlighting the journey from Syracuse to Salina with scenic rides, free time by the sea, and a delicious dinner with a view.
Salve (ciao), readers! This is my attempt at a rhyming poem recounting our day on June 5th in Italy. Enjoy!
Today was a relaxing travel day.
There was free time in the morning,
To explore Syracuse, eat breakfast, or lay
But by 11, we were all packed up,
And ready to be on our way.
After a 2 and a half hour bus ride
We said goodbye to our driver Antonio,
Ate some pizza or arincini fried
And got in line for our boat
Positioned by the beautiful seaside.
When we arrived at Salina we climbed
Till we got to our hotel on the mountain
And proceeded to have free time
Where we explored the pool, ate gelato,
And shopped around streets until dinner’s chime.
At dinner we had an amazing view
Of the pink and blue houses on the sea.
We ordered our dinner in Italian on cue
Eating pasta, breads, and meats,
With appetizers, music, and fizzy drinks too!
It’s been nice to share this for outreach
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post
Which will include our time at a beach
(And also happens to be my birthday!)
Thank you, readers, every and each.
