On Sunday, April 27, DA Speech & Debate will host the annual Deerfield Academy Parliamentary Debating Tournament, the year’s final tournament for the Debating Association of New England Independent Schools. This year, we’re proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our tournament, which has been held continuously since the spring of 1975 (on Zoom during COVID).
Seventeen schools from around New England will come to DA for three rounds of parliamentary debating. Teams of two will face off, only learning the topic and their side of the topic (for it or against it) ten minutes before debating. The competition starts at 12 pm. A round of debate takes about an hour.
