Over Fall Family Weekend, DA Speech & Debate sent three of its best to Portland, Maine to compete at the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition, hosted by Waynflete School. The tournament included 42 schools and 126 speakers from across North America, India, Hong Kong, and the Commonwealth. Alice ’28, Casey ’28, and John ’26 competed in three events over four days.
In the end, John won the championship in parliamentary debating, beating out 69 debaters in that event and earning DA an unprecedented third championship, repeating the 2024 victory of Edie ’25 in Bermuda and the 2023 victory of Billy ’25 in Vancouver.
Casey & John also took second place in cross-examination debating. Casey won a top spot for U16 debaters and qualified for the US Team at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships. Alice outscored 42 speakers in persuasive speaking and was third overall in the persuasive preliminary rounds. Congratulations to our debaters!
