On day two of the Save the Children Advocacy Summit, Deerfield students continued to educate themselves on the two main topics of the event: Early Child Education and Maternal, Child, and Newborn Survival. There were various informative sessions, panels, and speakers throughout the day. Some included Jeff Edmondson, the Managing Director of the Ballmer Group, Heather Nauert, Acting Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Amy Walter, the National Editor of The Cook Political Report, as well as everyday people from all across the country. Towards the end of the day, advocates began to work with the attendees from their states in order to prepare for their visits to Capitol Hill. Deerfield students are now ready to meet with representatives of Elizabeth Warren and Edward Markey, United States Senators from Massachusetts, and James McGovern, United States Representative of Massachusetts’s 2nd congressional district. The Deerfield group ended its night with at a student social and a fun get together at Sprinkles Cupcakes in Georgetown.
