Exploring Beijing: China 5

Christina Kopp – June 15, 2014

Coco Spagna ’16 shares the group’s adventures exploring Beijing:

We started the morning early with a visit to the emperor’s Summer Palace in Beijing. Our group traveled across the massive man-made lake on a brightly colored Dragon boat and proceeded to hike up the hundreds of stairs leading to the top of the mountain where the highest palace building was placed. The intricately painted ceilings and abundance of Chinese tourists wanting a photo-op only added to the incredible experience of the Summer Palace!

We briefly visited the Beijing Olympic Village, stopped for a quick all-American dinner at KFC, and then proceeded to a Chinese Acrobatics show. It was debatably the best show I have ever seen… Better than any Cirque du Soleil, opera, ballet, or musical. I have never before observed performers who possessed such talent and precision, and I was literally gripping my chair in mesmerization the entire time. I am looking forward to continue exploring Beijing and beyond.
