Notes from Abroad: O’Donnell Family Trek

Christina Kopp – April 3, 2014

Michael, Sonja and Julian O’Donnell are in the midst of an epic family trek, and wanted to share the following with the Deerfield community:

“Nepal was the 12th country we visited on our sabbatical journey. The three of us completed a 260 km trek from Jiri to Everest Base Camp and then back down to Lukla before flying back to Kathmandu. At the “Tea House” where we stayed in Namche Bazaar there were many flags and tee shirts celebrating previous treks decorating the walls. We wanted DA represented and the shirt Julian (Deerfield class of 2018!) designed was given a prominent spot at the entrance. It acknowledges our small “team” of guide and porters and celebrates our reaching our goal (Mt. Everest Base Camp) at 17,590′–our journey into thin air.”
