On MLK Day our community came together with Kids Against Hunger and did an important thing by packaging 156,816 meals for people in need. Unnoticed, a smaller good deed also happened that day. The meal project used up about 300 bags of rice; these large bags are made from woven plastic. We diverted these bags for recycling rather than sending them to a landfill. It was “only” 40 pounds of plastic–but it reflects a thoughtful decision and an important lesson for us all.
