MacLeod Opera Trip: A New Opera for Our Time

Daniel Roihl – October 21, 2013

This year’s MacLeod Opera Trip will take place on Saturday, November 2. Thanks to a generous donor, each year several students are given the opportunity to accompany the Head of School and Director of Music to a live, professional opera production. This year we travel again to New York’s Metropolitan Opera, one of the world’s great opera houses, for a performance of “Two Boys” by the celebrated young American composer Nico Muhly. This bold new work (in English) has been described as “a cautionary tale about the dark side of the Internet.” Inspired by a real-life crime, it explores the world of online relationships and chat rooms. We’ll depart campus at 8:30am to attend a matinee performance, followed by a tour of Lincoln Center and the Met. We will then enjoy a sumptuous dinner at a nearby restaurant (all courtesy of our donor’s generosity) before returning to campus around 11:00pm.¬†Spaces are limited and participation is awarded by lottery. All students and faculty are eligible to apply, but preference is given to students, particularly those who have not previously participated in an opera trip. In order to be considered, you must fill out and submit an application no later than this Friday, October 25. Please read the application form carefully and be sure you understand all the requirements before applying.
