The creation of the West Campus Dorm—from individual rooms to faculty residences to common areas—is a defining moment in the Academy’s history that will deepen the shared experiences, lasting friendships, and collective commitments that shape our students’ lives.
This year, we seek to raise $2.5 million from families in support of this transformative project. The third-floor common room—a space that will be used every day for decades to come—will be named in honor of the Great Class of 2027 and the leadership they are sure to provide throughout their senior year.

At Deerfield, learning doesn’t stop at the end of the school day. We build programs—including the residential life program—with intention in order to foster authentic relationships, support mentorship among peers, and provide access to faculty residents, who live alongside the young people they also teach, coach, and advise.
Some of the most meaningful moments happen in dorm common spaces: students gather for late-night conversations, impromptu study sessions, celebrations, and quiet encouragement when it’s needed most. Deerfield’s heads up, phone-light culture extends to spaces such as common rooms, where students enjoy one another’s company and build relationships that last a lifetime.
When students share common spaces, they learn to respect one another, care for their surroundings, and contribute to the well-being of their community. These everyday experiences foster accountability, independence, and a sense of responsibility that prepares them for college and for life.

I think one of the best parts of Deerfield is the dorm experience. Through living in the dorms I have met, and become close with, so many people that I otherwise might have not gotten the chance to know. Every day something new and fun is happening in the dorms, and I am so grateful for that.
