Archival Perspective: Sounds of Deerfield, 1965

Lozier, Anne – February 26, 2015

Fifty years ago, Bruce Zuckerman ’65 and Tony Aeck ’65 decided to make an audio time capsule of daily life at Deerfield Academy. They called it Sounds of Deerfield. The Archives houses the final vinyl product, but Bruce and his brother Ken ’63 unearthed the original source material of over 100 reel to reel audiotape masters and donated them to the Academy. Thank you to Bruce, Tony, and Ken. Special thanks to Ed Flickinger ’65 for the enormous job of transferring the analog tapes to digital files, making it possible for all to enjoy these audio treasures.

In celebration of this year’s 50th reunion for the Class of 1965, selected outtakes will be posted here each week from now until June. We’re kicking off the series with Robert McGlynn’s (English teacher, 1943-1984) class discussion, Illusion and Self-Realization.
