Dr. Robert Ballard Visits Deerfield
“You are a generation of explorers,” Dr. Robert Ballard told Deerfield students during school meeting today, sharing stories of his expeditions, how he uses new technology to chart undiscovered territory underwater, and opportunities for students to join him on his explorations around the world.
Dr. Ballard discussed some of his most famous discoveries, such as the RMS Titanic, the Lusitania, and the German battleship Bismark, then described how the technology he uses has changed over time–from submarines to robotic vehicles that can be controlled remotely and that transmit information all over the world.
Dr. Ballard, who currently heads the Center for Ocean Exploration and Archaeological Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island, will also attend Deerfield’s Science, Math, and Technology Symposium tomorrow, May 1, at noon in the Garonzik Auditorium.
