Deerfield science teacher Ben Bakker was awarded the Greer Family Distinguished Teaching Chair at today’s school meeting. Mr. Bakker, who has been at Deerfield since 1997, was described by one student as being “extremely patient. Careful. Loving and lovable. Insightful.” Others wrote that Mr. Bakker “reassured me, gave me confidence, and . . . made me want to be a teacher,” and that “his class changes the way you think.”
The Greer Family Distinguished Teaching Chair was established with the generous support of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Greer ’53 and their daughter, Elizabeth ’94. The chair is awarded to a member of the faculty whose tireless efforts, both in and out of the classroom, in the past year have enriched immeasurably the minds and hearts of students at Deerfield Academy.
