The Deerfield Academy Dining Hall is hiring a full-time (Group I) Salad Bar Manager to work, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Friday and Saturdays off. The Salad Bar Manager reports to the Production Manager.
Primary responsibilities include: provides direction and delegates tasks to Food Service Workers who are assisting with salad bar preparation and service; (Co-)Develop recipes for the Salad Bar, including specialty salads and mixtures to ensure availability of all nutritional components for vegetarians and vegans; prepare and cook as necessary various types of foods including fruits, vegetables, and meats, primarily for use on the salad bar; use commercial kitchen equipment including ovens, steamers, kettles, ranges, fryers, mixers and slicers; clean and sanitize commercial kitchen equipment including ovens, steamers, kettles, ranges, fryers, mixers and slicers; clean and sanitize work areas, food storage areas, sinks, carts, racks, and all other areas and items used for food preparation and service; adhere to food safety standards at all times and attend Menu Planning Meetings.
Qualifications include: completion of 12th grade or equivalent; ServSafe certification required, or willingness to become certified; experience in management in a food service environment; significant experience in food service, food preparation, sanitation, and safety practices in a commercial kitchen; significant experience with proper methods of cooking various food items, including meats, vegetables, starches, and salads; ability to meet schedules and time lines; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to communicate and work cooperatively with others; and the ability to understand hazards and follow safety procedures when using chemicals and equipment.
