At Deerfield, learning is a journey and a great adventure: an unfolding story of promise, potential, and transformation.
We honor the individuality, complex particularities, and unique backgrounds of each student, inviting them to see themselves—and their education—as an unfolding story of promise, potential, and transformation.
We are dedicated to supporting open inquiry, expressive freedom, and intellectual diversity inside and outside of our classrooms, and to promoting among students constructive, nonpartisan debate and dialogue across all of the differences that define us.
We foster in our students the habits of disciplined, independent thought, courageous inquiry, and respectful dialogue. Our curriculum celebrates the major traditions of inquiry and practice—those diverse ways of knowing and understanding that constitute the liberal arts—while also providing opportunities for more focused pursuits and exhibitions of mastery as students discover more about themselves and their interests.
Deerfield has long been known for its defining school spirit and traditions that build and sustain our community every day: sit-down meals, weekly School Meeting, and teachers who are engaged with students across all areas of school life—in classrooms, as coaches, and in dormitories.
Our academic schedule, featuring 90-minute classes, allows time for in-depth discussions and the development of a practitioner’s mindset. During the school day, our campus is cell phone free, reinforcing our dedication to face-to-face interactions and one another.
Cost should never be a barrier
to a Deerfield education.
Domestic families making up to $150,000 annually will pay zero in tuition and fees.
Deerfield is ready for you, if you’re ready to join the conversation.
“I pursued a boarding school education because I wanted to be in an environment that would push me. Deerfield is where I learned to believe in myself.”
“The best part of Speech and Debate is the social element. We meet people from all over the world at conferences and competitions. The goal is never to crush the opposition—it’s to learn and improve alongside each other.”
“My first year, I was extremely introverted. Over time, Deerfield allowed me to find myself as an individual, and taught me how to be a leader.”
“When I arrived here, I felt for the first time in my life that I could truly be myself.”
At Deerfield, our goal is not simply student achievement. Our goal—as it has been for decades upon decades—is to create a school that celebrates and promotes deep bonds, health, inclusion, and the individuality of each and every student. We look forward to learning more about you, and to the possibility of welcoming you into our dynamic and joyful community.
