Food Service Worker

Deerfield Academy has a unique opportunity for a versatile candidate to work during our academic year in our award-winning Dining Hall as a Food Service Worker. At the conclusion of the academic year, the individual in this role will transition to our Facilities Department to support our Custodial or Grounds teams for up to 10 weeks in the summer months.

Primary responsibilities include: setting up and maintaining various food stations, serving buffets, and beverage areas; maintaining and sanitizing dining tables; serving food for both sit-downs and served cafeteria-style meal services; preparing various ingredients including vegetables, fruits, and meats as directed; assisting in cooking various dishes including meats, vegetables, starches, soups, and other items; use of commercial kitchen equipment including ovens, steamers, kettles, ranges, fryers, mixers, and slicers; cleaning and sanitizing commercial kitchen equipment including ovens, steamers, kettles, ranges, fryers, mixers, and slicers; cleaning and sanitizing work areas, food storage areas, sinks, carts, racks, and all other areas and items used for food preparation and service.

Primary Facilities responsibilities may include: Assisting the custodial team to clean and maintain buildings ensuring all assigned areas are cleaned on a daily basis and/or assisting the grounds team to maintain the physical aspects of the campus grounds, school-owned houses, and athletic fields.

Qualifications include: completion of 12th grade or equivalent; have a current ServSafe certification, or the willingness to become certified, have a working knowledge of food service, food preparation, sanitation, and safety practices in a commercial kitchen as well as knowledge of proper methods of cooking various food items, including meats, vegetables, starches, and salads. The ability to meet schedules and timelines, the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and the ability to communicate and work cooperatively with others is required.

Sign-on Bonus – The successful candidate will receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus ($500 paid at the time of hire and $500 at the end of 90 days.)
