The Trustees of Deerfield Academy are pleased to announce a national search for a new Chief Financial Officer for Deerfield Academy. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Deerfield Academy, a key executive officer reporting to and under the direction of Dr. John P.N. Austin, the Head of School, is responsible for the business, financial, investment, human relations, and administrative functions of the Academy. The CFO is also an officer of the corporation.

Deerfield Academy is an independent boarding school located in historic Deerfield, Massachusetts. Founded in 1797, the Academy provides an education of unsurpassed quality to 649 students (50/50 boys/girls) in grades 9 through 12, including a small number of post-graduates. Students at Deerfield come from 35 states and 47 countries. The school enjoys a rich tradition of an excellent athletic program.

The school’s 280-acre campus is located in the center of historic Deerfield, a restored colonial village in rural western Massachusetts, 90 miles from Boston and 55 miles from Hartford. Only 20 minutes south is the Five College area that includes Amherst, Smith, Mount Holyoke, and Hampshire colleges and the University of Massachusetts, providing rich cultural and intellectual resources.

A 27-member Board of Trustees is the Academy’s governing body. The endowment as of 12/31/20 was valued at approximately $753.2 million. In 2019-20, operating expenses totaled $52.1 million, capital gifts amounted to $23.2 million, and Annual Giving was $5.9 million, with 33% of solicitable alumni and 50% of current parents participating. The participation rate was lower than usual due to the pandemic.
