On a year to date basis, excluding the senior class, the 50% parent participation rate to the annual fund is well ahead of last years’ pace. The goal for the full year is 70%, so please make every effort to contribute by the end of the fiscal year on June 30th. Over the past five years, parent giving to the Annual Fund has averaged more than $1.6 million per year. These funds allow the Academy to invest in new programs, test new technologies, and continue to attract the highest quality faculty. We ask parents to contribute as generously as they are able–it is a direct investment in our children.
For senior parents, the target for the class of 2015 senior gift is $1.5 million with an 80% participation rate. The proceeds raised will go towards the college advising space in the renovated Library. Since we have more work to do to achieve both of these levels, I would ask senior parents to please make every effort to contribute by the end of June.
Each year Deerfield invests $30,000 more per student than it receives in tuition in interdisciplinary courses, community spaces, and the student experience. Annual support from parents and alumni covers approximately one-third of this amount with the balance drawn from Deerfield’s endowment. This financial supplement to the operating budget provided by the annual fund represents the margin of excellence that guarantees an unparalleled education for Deerfield’s 630 students. Parent giving is an integral component of the funding required to help keep Deerfield at the very pinnacle of secondary school education and to remain a great place for our children to go to school.
Through the years, parent giving has been instrumental in creating a school with rock-solid financial stability, along with a diverse, uniquely talented faculty and student body. This has enabled Deerfield to retain the community focus established by Frank Boyden over one hundred years ago, accentuated by sit-down meals and close faculty/student relationships in the classroom, on the playing fields and in the dorms. These are the memories and relationships that will stay with our children long after they leave Deerfield.
