Parent Guide to Commencement Weekend

Commencement400With few visible signs of spring on campus today, it is hard to believe that the flowers will actually bloom and the sun should shine when our seniors process down Academy Lane on Sunday, May 25, 2014. While Mother Nature is busy preparing for our arrival, the Administration is finalizing and refining the details for each event for the weekend. Parents and guests may notice small changes this year, such as a seating diagram and improved lighting in the beautiful graduation tent. We hope that you are all aware of the Deerfield Parent Network’s new initiative for the weekend: Graduation Dinner on Friday night for parents and graduates at The Log Cabin in Holyoke, MA. Sponsored by the DPN, the dinner is a chance for graduates and their parents to celebrate as a class. Dinner, dancing and a slideshow are part of the evening’s festivities. If you have not responded to the invitation, please do so in order that Kerry Wilson receives your check by May 1st. For those in need of financial aid for this event please contact Melissa Persons at or 413-774-1568.
The reservation for you and your graduate will be confirmed by email as soon as Kerry Wilson receives your check. Please respond to Paperless Post invitation with any and all questions.

There is also a wonderful and very comprehensive Guide to Commencement Weekend written by Peggy Harris P’10, P’13 that is included in the graduation packet you received by mail in March. We recently updated Peggy’s article to include additional information for this year. Read her article with our updates for Commencement 2014.

The administration asks that parents, family and guests respond to the Commencement packet by April 18th. The academy will take care of the rest of the details. Please check the DPN website in the weeks and days leading to Commencement Weekend for any last minute information. Plan for a memorable weekend and ask Mother Nature to send some sunshine our way on Sunday morning.
