Marissa Cornelius

History & Social Science Teacher

Originally from Los Angeles, California, Marissa attended the University of Alabama for her undergraduate years on a full-ride academic scholarship and as part of the Honors College, graduating summa cum laude. There, she majored in secondary education and history and minored in political science. She worked with multiple educational non-profits and volunteer programs while in school, quickly realizing her passion for the classroom. She has worked in school placements in multiple secondary schools in western Alabama. The summer before her senior year, she was a Teaching Fellow for the charter network Uncommon Schools, during which she taught eighth grade English in Newark, New Jersey. Additionally, she served as an opinions writer and the Opinions Editor for the Crimson White, the University of Alabama’s student newspaper. She is currently working towards her master’s degree in education from the University of Pennsylvania through the Independent School Teaching Residency. In her free time, Marissa enjoys cooking, playing with cats, playing the piano, and yoga. She is thrilled to be joining the Deerfield community.
