Jan Flaska came to the Deerfield community in the fall of 2005. Jan has degrees from Boston University, Boston College, and Bowdoin College, and is pursuing a doctoral degree from Catholic Theological Union (Chicago), focusing on the topic of reclaiming contemplative practices in the lives of adolescence as a worthy response to the constant incursion of technology into their lives.
For over two decades, Jan has coached high school soccer, ice hockey, lacrosse and tennis, and he has coached college athletes at Boston University, the University of Chicago, and Harvard University. Jan is also the head coach of the Slovak National Lacrosse team. The unsolicited advice he gives any adolescent athlete is to play every sport you can, all the time!
