Haley O'Neil

Language Department Chair, Language Teacher

Haley holds a B.A. in Spanish and Anthropology from Skidmore College, and an M.A./Ph.D. in Hispanic Literatures and Languages, with a concentration in Applied Linguistics, from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She has taught Spanish language, literature, and culture courses at both the university and high school levels, and has also worked extensively with travel abroad programs to Spanish speaking countries, first as a teacher and director of Putney Student Travel’s program in Spain, and more recently designing a trip to Oaxaca, Mexico for Deerfield students. Haley’s dedication to the teaching of Spanish stems from her conviction that learning how to understand and speak to more and different kinds of human beings, and so see the world from new perspectives, promotes both intellectual and emotional growth. Haley lives in HS2 and is faculty advisor to the yearbook.
